April 22, 2021

Welcoming Bobby Watts

The National Health Care for the Homeless Council has announced that Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, the National Book Award-winning author of Stamped from the Beginning: A Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America and How to Be an Antiracist, will be a part of the 2021 Health Care for the Homeless Conference & Policy Symposium.

The conversation with Kendi will take place on the second day of the main conference, Wednesday, May 12, from 3:25-4:25 p.m. CST, and will focus on health equity.

“I am looking forward to hosting Professor Kendi for this timely and necessary conversation,” said Bobby Watts, CEO of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council and a member of the Biden-Harris Administration’s COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force. “There are many monumental events that have taken place over the past year, and even in the past few days, that will help shape how our nation addresses issues of equity. Professor Kendi’s perspective will benefit our conference attendees immeasurably as they continue the work of improving health care and ending homelessness.”

Kendi is a #1 New York Times bestselling and National Book Award-winning author, the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities at Boston University, and the founding director of the BU Center for Antiracist Research. He is a contributing writer at The Atlantic and a CBS News racial justice contributor. Kendi is the 2020-2021 Frances B. Cashin Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. In 2020, Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

The National Health Care for the Homeless Council 2021 Conference & Policy Symposium will take place virtually May 10-14. Embracing the theme “EQuality = Equity + Quality in a COVID-Aware World,” the conference will explore innovative approaches to homeless health care and service delivery though a COVID-19 lens.
